The right packaging, an integral part of our solutions
Adequate packaging keeps our food fresh, our meals safe, and our choices informed. In that sense, it’s one of the best solutions to prevent food waste. Despite this, food packaging also has an impact on the environment. We go for adequate as well as sustainable packaging, and consider it a way of supporting our customers in achieving their sustainability goals and meeting (upcoming) regulations.
Our 2030 targets
Together with our customers, we want to create truly sustainable packaging solutions, without compromising on food quality, safety, and product appeal. This applies to primary as well as secondary packaging.

This directive refers to improved environmental sustainability, as well as other factors, such as innovation in functionality and production.
Doing our utmost to make 100% of our packaging recyclable-ready, reusable or compostable by 2025

Progress and highlights
Recyclable packaging
74% of our packaging is now recyclable-ready.
Reduced packaging
In 2024, we optimized secondary and tertiary packaging. Not only did we reduce packaging weight, we also improved our logistics and cut our EU truck movements by 2%.
Reusable packaging
We work progressively more with foldable crates, which are returned to our factories, refilled, and sent back to customers and/or local warehouses.
