Making meal boxes even more convenient
During the pandemic, the popularity of meal boxes soared to unseen heights. They enabled healthy at-home cooking in times of confinement: choose meals online and have all the ingredients delivered to your doorstep – pre-packaged and in the right quantities. Such convenience has since kept its appeal, and meal boxes are here to stay.
Solina wanted to further boost that convenience. So, we partnered up with a fruit and vegetable processing company to try and develop multipurpose meal-box ingredients. The goal: a series of products with different culinary possibilities.

Veggies and vision
Our partner’s offering of fresh vegetables proved to be the ideal starting point. We then combined it with our technical know-how, process expertise and flavour knowledge. Together, we translated a variety of meals into meal-box ideas. That resulted in a range of 10 products, ready to be mixed and matched in a wider meal-box portfolio.
We developed several multipurpose dry mixes, sauces, and paste solutions. For example, our lasagne sauce solution is not only used in the lasagne kit, but also in the pizza and tomato soup kits. The final meal-box product range consisted of couscous, several spice mixes (vegetable kebab, moussaka, nasi goreng bumbu), a madras curry paste and three sauces (fajita, garlic, lasagne).

Drawing on consumer insights, trends, and food technology, Solina uses its culinary heritage to create a diverse lineup of integrated food solutions. We come up with delicious sauces, marinades and coatings (and more!), but we also try to make good food even better (for example, check out our plant protein efforts here).
